For the first time in over 30 years Maber Motors now has an owner operator on site. Geoff Shuker, current owner of the Tractor Centre in Pukekohe has bought a half share in Maber Motors Morrinsville and Maber Motors Putaruru.
New Managing Director, Geoff Shuker has some core fundamentals that he wants to initially focus on as he takes over the reins of the well known company that has been servicing the Waikato Region since 1946.
“Anyone can sell tractors but our real focus needs to be on the back end of the business - the service, after sales service and onsite servicing. These are the high priorities for farmers” said Geoff. Mr Shuker knows the value of relationship building and looking after customers are the key to ensure repeat business. “I am really looking forward to getting out in the field and meeting more of the locals, getting stuck in to building the business and providing 24/7 back up service for our customers and providing a ‘we can fix anything attitude’ for them” he said.
Geoff will be in Morrinsville running the day to day operations, so customers can enjoy peace of mind knowing they can come and talk to him directly. “I know from experience having the owner ‘hands on’ to help find the best solution for the customer’s situation goes a long way in growing client confidence” said Geoff. He will also still oversee The Tractor Centre but is confident his well established team are capable of running the business.
Geoff Shuker’s family are farmers and he has spent his entire working life with tractors and machinery. He completed his mechanic apprenticeship at Franklin Farm Services and then spent four years working for Norwoods where he moved into Sales. He was offered a role working on the Combine Harvester Test Team in Essex in England by John Deere for the Ben Burgess Group, one of the UK’s largest tractor and machinery companies. Upon his return home, Geoff worked as a Territory Manager for Power Farming, where he looked after the North Island as a wholesaler. It was then Geoff started his working relationship with Geoff Maber, when a business opportunity became available for Geoff Shuker to buy a third share in The Tractor Centre in Pukekohe. Shuker moved, developed and expanded The Tractor Centre on its 10 acre property in Paerata to become one of the most modern, well equipped facilities in New Zealand and increased its turnover by $17 Million dollars.
